Well, it wouldn’t be me if I actually posted a birthday party post during the birthday month. Bee has now been 4 for 4 months and I’m just finishing her Beeday party blog to share with you.

I like to use things like family posts as motivation to finish chores and tasks so I “get” to share a personal post. But right now my time belongs to 3 little people so my chores are never-ending leading to a massive deficit in the personal post department. Today I’m trapped in the car so it is prime opportunity to share our Beeday Party.

One of the things I love most about this spunky girl is she has no problem being 100% who she is. Sometimes this fact drives me absolutely bananas, but mostly I’m proud of her confidence and self-assuredness. And her birthday themes usually follow suit. While her sister and her friends are asking for princess and kitty parties, Bee wants donuts and horses (NOT unicorns).

So it’s no surprise that Bee was game for a Beeday party “like I’m a Bee”. It turned out so cute and was also crazy simple… in comparison to the parties I typically create. So give me a little grace when I use the word “simple”.

The Food.

Of my 3 Bee is the eater so I incorporated her favorite foods into the menu. Of course- I had to keep it all yellow and black and bumblebee themed as well so I took a few liberties along the way.

We served a Bumblebee cheese ball with olives for the stripes and antennae. If you’ve ever eaten a salad around Bee you know olives are her favorite and she has no qualms about stealing them straight off your salad. It’s a miracle the antennae actually made it until party kick off.

Fruit is a must and we stuck to pineapples and dark purple grapes. I found honeycomb cereal and added mini fudge stripes and marshmallows for a Bee-themed trailmix. We also added a crockpot full of sausage balls for something savory.

The show stealer was definitely the Bee Hive donut hole cake from our local bakery, The Sweet Bar. Friends, if you haven’t had one of these donut hole cakes do yourself a favor and go order one. It’s better than any birthday cake you will ever eat (and I’m pretty much a birthday cake expert). I ordered some bumblebee sugar cupcake toppers and stuck them around the beehive to make it festive.

For the tables I went with a fresh, spring look using mason jars tied with yellow and black ribbon and filled with daisies and wildflowers. Hobby Lobby had a great little bumblebee display this year and I found these little wooden Bee trinkets and signs to set on the tables with the mason jars. For the remaining tables the girls and I painted mini canvases yellow and stamped a bee on top.

My very favorite Beeday party decoration?? The collection of bumblebee art the girls painted. 4 months later they are still hanging on my kitchen wall!

The Fun + Favors.

The main party activity was painting miniature flower pots. Growing up my older cousin Paige would plan craft nights for us when she came home from college. One of my favorite activities was going to the store for flower pots and then painting them. When I found miniature flowerpots at the Dollar Tree I knew they would be a hit with the kids. Party favors were homemade bumblebee antennae and BUMBLE gum.

Next week Whitlee turns 6 and we actually had her party last week. So it looks like you’ll get back to back party posts if I can manage it. It’s also the first week of school and I’m hoping to throw together a post of our summer in review. Maybe with the kids in school I’ll actually have time to share a few blog posts!
