Checking Patriotic Senior Session off the bucket list now!!
This session has been on my “must do” list for a few summers and it finally happened!
I told the Senior Company ladies that the theme was AMERICANA and to go as all-American and red, white, and blue as they wanted. Clearly this crew understood the assignment.
We used a bridge and creek in Armuchee. It was the perfect backdrop but the number of times we had to move all 18 of us, my gear, and our props off this “lightly used” bridge was comical. (Thank you, Reagan for making sure none of us were run over!)
I did learn a few things for for the next 4th of July session!!!!
Tips for a Patriotic Senior Session
1- Location Matters
As I mentioned before, an in-use bridge with 18 girls looks pretty but the logistics are iffy. We scrambled so many times to gather our things and move out of the way. And yes- my flash even took a tumble off the bridge one good time. (Don’t worry- it’s still alive!) At least we can all laugh about it now.
2- Spare No Expense
Forget the cheap 4th of July sparklers. Level up and order wedding sparklers! Those cheap little ones take forever to light and half of the sparklers burn out before all of them are lit.
3- Push the props.
Yes the sunglasses were kids’ patriotic sunglasses. And yes my girls probably felt a little cheesy with the flags sticking out of their pockets and the sunglasses. But LOOK how fun the results are.
4- More is better.
You can never have enough American flags. I went for large, mid-sized AND small.
5- Splish Splash!
Always say yes to the water!!!! I love a creek photo and these were so much fun. Not to mention it cools you off.
6- Keep Your Eyes Peeled.
Check all the rocks for gigantic water spiders before you sit. Ask us how we know!
BONUS!!!! Definitely bring flip flops or water shoes to get yourself to the water. Unless your photographer is willing to give you a piggy back ride down to the creek. But I won’t name any names 😉
(What I would give for some BTS shots to go with those last 2 tips!)
