Armuchee High School Senior: How to choose outfits for Senior Pictures.

Sep 30, 2022

Today I am answering a few FAQ’s about how to choose outfits for senior pictures.

It’s one of the most fun parts of a custom senior session but it can also feel a little overwhelming. I’m here to take the stress out of it so you can just enjoy the process!!!!

How many outfits should I wear for Senior Pictures?

3-5 outfits are the perfect amount for my custom senior sessions! Less than 3 will start to feel repetitive when you view your gallery at your session premiere but you will probably get tired of changing clothes before we get to #6.

Should my senior picture outfits be similar styles?

Nope. Definitely not! Incorporating many styles into your wardrobe the more variety you will have in your gallery. My general rule of thumb when choosing outfits is:

  • One outfit that is 100% you.
  • One outfit that mom loves.
  • One outfit that you would wear every day.
  • One outfit that feels elevated.
  • One outfit that tells your story (i.e. letter jacket, college/HS tee, etc).

Elizabeth did a great job preparing for her session! I love that she incorporated bright and fun outfits that felt like sunshine and summer along with a classic off-white dress for the wildflower field and a leather shorts with a black top for a more urban look.

What kind of shoes are best for senior pictures?

A wedge or heel make everyone’s legs (and booty!) look great so you will never go wrong adding height to an outfit, especially with dresses!

Right now “fashion sneakers” are very popular and I love the personality they add to your outfits. If you have some yellow high tops you love or a new pair of dunks bring them on. In fact, let’s plan an entire outfit around your kicks!

However, the most important factor is that you are able to move well!

If you are a shoe girl and have some really amazing stilettos or boots PLEASE wear them. But also bring a pair of flip flops to slip on when we change locations or have to walk across uneven ground.

What if my outfit doesn’t fit well?

So here’s the thing. I know we all order from online boutiques and sometimes the clothes that come in don’t fit exactly like we hoped. If you don’t feel comfortable when you try it on- you will feel even MORE uncomfortable when you are in front of the camera.

Try everything on! If zippers are busted, hems are too long or too short or waists are too big or too tight have your items altered or choose an alternate outfit. We move around a lot during your session and the last thing you need to be self conscious about is a safety pinned zipper or ill-fitting outfit.

Should I wear jewelry?

Absolutely!!!!!

I love a pair of statement earrings and fun accessories to use as props. Jewelry also helps your outfit look complete. Many of my seniors will wear a piece of jewelry that has special meaning to them. If that’s you PLEASE tell me so I am sure to capture those details.

During your style consult we will discuss jewelry, shoes, underthings and also match your outfits to the locations that will show them off best.
