I start feeling a little gloomy when I don’t have a fun trip on the horizon. Which is why a destination senior session will always be a yes from me!

Destination Senior Session: Chattanooga

When Gracie and I began planning her senior pictures she had a few distinct ideas about what she wanted. I knew she would! This girl is a visionary and I love it.

But at the top of her list was a roof top in a city. Not our cute and quaint downtown Rome. An actual city like Chattanooga or Atlanta. We both love Chattanooga so it was an easy choice!

Destination senior sessions are always a bit of an adventure because we can’t know the locations as intimately as those we see every day. Thank you, Google Maps! Such a fantastic tool for mapping out a plan.

The entire urban segment of our session was perfect!!! We were able to capture three distinct urban looks in a single block. We started on the roof for some dramatic shots that were a pretty perfect combination of Batgirl crossed with Barbie. Then we moved over to Rainbow Alley and ended in the middle of a street downtown that was light on traffic.

And then things got a little dicey.

Gracie wanted a segment of her session in a natural location that involved water. Water in Chattanooga is easy to find. But the riverfront was not the right fit. So I went back to Google and found a place I thought might work. I talked it over with Gracie and told her that this would be a true adventure.

If I can help it I always scout potential locations, call the venues for photo policies, and have a very detailed plan of execution.

Except this time I couldn’t reach anyone on the phone and the venue’s website was archaic. Gracie agreed to an adventure and off we went. They thought about kicking us out- but changed their minds. And while we did get a little lost in the woods, we also managed to get these stunning shots of Gracie along the way.
